One gives gas, one gives motes, etc. Its like how the life seeded origin sets your species preference as gaia world. Shattered Ring Machines was, in previous versions, the strongest start in the game by far, partially because it was the simplest, but also partially because the origin was just really OP, and machines were also really OP.
